Clinicoepidemiological Studies on A/Korea/72 (H©ýN©ü) Influenza Epidemic in Seoul, 1973

Abstract
1) Influenza type A/Hong Kong/68 had been in epidemics all over the south Korea including Seoul, the capital city of Korea, from March to May on 1971. About one year later, from March to May on 1972, influenza type A/Koreaj72CH3N2) (=A/Hong Kong/5/72) took apeak of spreading in the every corner of this country.
2) Both types of epidemic influenza had no distinctive difference each other in clinical features and attack rate in each age group.
3) The attack rate in 1972 was 53% among 198 cases who had been contracked by influenza in 1971. And from the study of innocent 101 cases, the attack rate in 1972 was 490. This result suggested that the immunity was not obtained adequately through the epidemics of influenza in 1971.
4) The increased incidence of bronchitis, pneumonia and pyothorax during influenza epidemics compared to that during the non-epidemics seems to be related to the outbrek of the influenza. The bacterial cultures of the sputum from the pneumonia patient in influenza epidemic showed in order of frequency as following, staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas species, aerobacter species, and hemolytic streptococcus.
